I don’t know what kind of trees these are, but they produce beautiful lavender blossoms, and I see them everywhere in LA. My dad says that they also grow all over the place in Mexico, making the decent into the Mexico City airport very lovely. They remind me of the lilac bushes we had around our garage in Amherst, MA. My mom loved the smell of lilacs and I remember cutting stems from the bushes to enjoy inside the house.

Shortly after I posted this Mom-Minder in 2009 a friend told me these trees are called Jacarandas. I see them all the time in my neighborhood when I walk my dog. They still smell great and they still remind me of my mom.
I completed this photo project from May 2009 to May 2010. Six years later, I'm reposting the series with additional thoughts. Here's what I wrote about it when I started.
