Happy New Year! I’ve decided to dub 2018 “The Year of Help”. That means that throughout 2018 I will be asking for and giving help. I realize this doesn’t sound radical, but trust me, that first part is kind of a hard thing for me. I’m totally the “oh, I’ll just do it myself” type of person. I bet a lot of you can relate. That type of thinking is great and I can get a lot done that way, but I’ve come to realize that I can accomplish a lot MORE (and just be a generally happy and well-balanced person), if I ask for help.
I’m not sure how it happened, but I feel that our society somehow looks down on the idea of asking for help. It’s seen as a sign of weakness, which is ridiculous because when you really think about it, we all get help in various forms all the time. No one does EVERYTHING all by themselves. Oh? You removed your appendix by yourself?! WOW! You should write a book!
Of course, it’s not really fair for me to just go around asking for help, so the other part of The Year of Help is that I will be giving help whenever I can. I plan to actively look for ways I can help people I encounter in my day-to-day life. So, if you’re reading this, is there something I can help you with? Let me know!
So yeah, that’s it. Pretty short SchloerBLOG post this week, but I think it’s still a pretty important topic. And check back here for updates on 2018 - The Year of Help!
Thanks for reading The SchloerBLOG, guys! Leave me a comment, won't you?
But, um, not the evil, troll-y kind, please? 😊
